All eyes were once again on Xabi Alonso and his Bayer Leverkusen team over the weekend with Liverpool fans keen to check in on how Jurgen Klopp's expected successor is getting on at his current club.

The answer? Pretty damn well.

Alonso guided Leverkusen to yet another win at the weekend, and here's everything Reds fans learned from it.

A 2-1 win doesn't sound like the most dominant of victories for Bayer Leverkusen, but the truth is that they saw off Heidenheim without really breaking a sweat on Saturday.

With 62% possession and 18 efforts on goal, Leverkusen comfortably controlled proceedings at the Voith-Arena and deservedly bagged all three points thanks to goals from Jeremie Frimpong and Amine Adli - three points which extended their lead in the Bundesliga title race to eight points. Nice one.

As well as securing three points and extending their lead atop of the Bundesliga table to eight points, the win over Heidenheim also saw Leverkusen create some German football history.

The win meant that Leverkusen equalled the German record (held by Bayern Munich since 2020) of 32 games unbeaten in all competitions.

Reports state that Bayern Munich are keen to hire Alonso if they part ways with their woefully underperforming manager Thomas Tuchel, with a view to bringing in the Spaniard following the conclusion of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season.

It may be time for Liverpool to lock Alonso down before Bayern do...
