The merciful end of the 2022/23 season cannot come soon enough for Tottenham Hotspur.

Nine more points may be on offer but Ryan Mason turned to the intangibles when he outlined his goals as interim manager for the rest of the season.

"We need to create a feeling where everyone is aligned," Mason said, "the club, the players and the fans." Given the widening divide between Daniel Levy and seemingly everyone else associated with Spurs, Mason may be better off promising Champions League qualification.

Spurs moved up to sixth with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday but still trail fourth-placed Manchester United by six points despite playing two games more than the Red Devils.

Here's the form which has left Spurs outside the top five and what lies ahead for the remainder of the campaign.

Tottenham form guide

Tottenham's troubles in recent weeks have been painfully obvious. Whatever Mason - or his interim predecessor Cristian Stellini - has said to his players ahead of kickoff has had a disastrous effect.

Across matches against Newcastle (three), Manchester United (one) and Liverpool (three) in the last fortnight, Tottenham have conceded seven goals in the opening 15 minutes. Palace didn't even have a shot in the opening 15 minutes on Saturday as Spurs maintained their relatively impressive home form.

The north London outfit have only lost one of their last nine matches at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium across all competitions.

However, Tottenham's form on the road has been significantly worse. The club's last win - or clean sheet - away from home in any competition was all the way back in January, long before Antonio Conte unleashed a diatribe against his own players and the fabric of the institution which employed him.

When Unai Emery took charge of his first game as Aston Villa manager, Spurs were riding high in third while the Midlands giants were level on points with relegation zone-dwelling Southampton.

Six months later, Emery has steered Villa into position to challenge Spurs for one of the lucrative European qualification spots. Given Tottenham's traumatic history with the Conference League and Emery's love of all things Europa, Spurs may not be too fussed if they lose seventh place to Villa.

Tottenham vs Brentford - Premier League

In recent weeks, Brentford manager Thomas Frank has decried that "football is cruel". However, with the Bees poised to record their highest top-flight finish since 1938, the beautiful game has looked far uglier for other teams.

Tottenham may well finish above their capital rivals but have undoubtedly come out of the campaign more wounded than Brentford. Frank's upwardly mobile side could inflict even more damage in Tottenham's final home game of the season.

Leeds vs Tottenham - Premier League

By the final day of the season, Tottenham's trip to Elland Road may prove to be far more decisive for their hosts. While Levy has opted to promote from within after each sacking this season, Sam Allardyce is the third individual hired from outside the club to take charge of relegation-battling Leeds.

Before Allardyce sidled up to Thorp Arch, he spent the first two-thirds of the season touting himself as a potential option for each vacancy in England's top flight. Tottenham, however, proved even too much of a stretch, with the unwaveringly confident coach describing his chances of taking over Spurs as "highly unlikely".
