Thomas Tuchel reveals plans to add Chelsea coach to Bayern Munich setup

Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed he wants to add Chelsea coach Anthony Barry to his backroom staff.

The German champions surprisingly and swiftly parted company with Julian Nagelsmann at the end of this week, replacing him with Tuchel following a quick round of negotiations.

Tuchel was unveiled as Bayern's newest boss on Saturday, where he revealed that he plans on reuniting with Chelsea coach Barry in the near future.

"The timing was surprising, I didn't expect it and there was no contact beforehand. I assumed that I would continue my career abroad. The first interview was on Tuesday evening. The size of the challenge was the deciding factor that I wanted to do it," Tuchel said.

Regarding his backroom setup, he added: "My coaching staff wasn't prepared either, so a big thank you to their families for their flexibility. Arno Michels and Zsolt Low, who have been working with me for over ten years, will be there. We're hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea."

The Telegraph reported on Friday that Chelsea were bracing themselves for an approach for Barry, who worked alongside Tuchel in his 18 months at Stamford Bridge.

Who is Anthony Barry?

Barry, a former footballer in England's lower leagues and non-league, was first brought to Chelsea by Frank Lampard in 2020 after impressing as assistant manager of Wigan Athletic.

He is known for his meticulous attention to detail and stayed on at Chelsea through the Lampard and Tuchel eras, now working with current boss Graham Potter.

Barry was formerly on the coaching teams of Belgium and the Republic of Ireland, while he has now taken up a part-time role with Portugal.
