Chelsea general manager Paul Green hailed Erin Cuthbert as 'immense' after the midfielder was instrumental in the Blues' 1-0 Champions League victory over PSG on Thursday evening.

A first half Millie Bright volley saw Chelsea to victory over last season's beaten semi finalists, as the Blues attempt to avoid a repeat of last term's surprise group stage exit.

Chelsea turned in a resilient defensive performance to keep PSG out, as the French outfit upped the pressure in the second half.

Cuthbert's tireless performance in midfield was pivotal, winning the ball back on multiple occasions, breaking up wave after wave of attack and driving her side forward with her unrelenting energy.

"In terms of Erin Cuthbert I thought she absolutely immense tonight," said Green. "I thought she was outstanding and put in a fantastic performance, and showed what she's all about and we're really delighted with the way she played in central midfield.

"I thought she was really strong and dominated that area, won her tackles and carried the ball well for us. She's a fantastic young player and we've nurtured her and we know how good Erin is. I thought she was fantastic tonight."

Cuthbert also provided the assist for Chelsea's opener with a teasing ball to the back post, which was expertly guided home by Bright.

"[Bright] used to be a striker; we were together at Doncaster and she must have been remembering that time when it came to her at the back post," Green went on to say.

"Fantastic finish and I thought her overall performance as part of that defensive unit was really solid. She's a top player and certainly put in a top performance tonight."
