There was an injury scare for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford as the England international hobbled off in the second-half of his side's Premier League victory against Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Lining up through the middle as Erik ten Hag dropped the divisive striker Wout Weghorst to the bench for the second game in a row, Rashford squared for Anthony Martial to roll in United's second goal of a sun-soaked lunchtime kick-off in the 71st minute.

Rashford was also involved in United's opener, fighting for the ball amid a scrum of stubborn blue shirts on the edge of Everton's box before Jadon Sancho spotted a chink in the visitors' rearguard, teeing up Scott McTominay for a crisp finish into the far corner in the final ten minutes of the first half.

Ten Hag turned to his bench in the final 15 minutes with United's two-goal lead giving them a comfortable cushion against the relegation-threatened Toffees. Christian Eriksen was one of the substitutes, making his first appearance since damaging his ankle in a spiky FA Cup fourth-round tie against Reading at the end of January.

Now there are fears that Rashford may take the place in United's treatment room which Eriksen has just vacated.

Rashford stretched for a ball in the closing stages of the 2-0 win against Everton and appeared to overextend himself, clutching his right leg as he hobbled over to the touchline while the visitors launched a raid forward.

As soon as the ball belatedly went out of play in the 81st minute, Rashford was limping down the tunnel. Although the 25-year-old found time to hand his shirt to a jubilant young fan, Rashford looked in considerable discomfort as he gingerly made his way off the Old Trafford turf with what may have been a groin issue.

Rashford pulled out of England's squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine in March with a knock he sustained in United's FA Cup quarter-final against Fulham.

However, after a fortnight's rest and a trip to New York to recuperate mentally as well as physically, Rashford had played every minute of United's Premier League fixtures in April before limping off on Saturday.

Ten Hag can scarcely afford to be without his team's top scorer for any considerable amount of time as the first game of a two-legged Europa League quarter-final against La Liga's Sevilla looms on Thursday.

United also welcome Chelsea to Old Trafford and will meet Brighton at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals later this month.
