Sunday's derby sees the two halves of Manchester meet in differing moods.

While the debate rages on over what colour the city is, there's little doubt Pep Guardiola's all-conquering Manchester City side approach the weekend's tie as firm favourites against Erik ten Hag's Manchester United.

The Red Devils have once again been handed a lengthy injury list and can take little solace from their recent record against the Cityzens. Man Utd have won just one of the last five meetings with City, suffering heavy losses and Wembley heartbreak in recent years.

Here's how the last five games between the local rivals have panned out.

The build-up to the most recent meeting between the two Manchester giants largely focused around the passing of the late Sir Bobby Charlton. The England World Cup winner played in 25 Manchester derbies, scoring eight goals.

This October fixture proved to be Erling Haaland's goalscoring stage as the Cityzens marched to a convincing victory with little issue at Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund was penalised for handball in the midst of his barren streak in the Premier League, allowing his fellow Scandinavian to open the scoring. Haaland nodded in a second before assisting Phil Foden to finish off a straightforward victory.

The run-in during the 2022/23 season proved to be all about Man City.

Guardiola's side had already wrapped up the Premier League title by the time they met their local rivals in the FA Cup final and it looked like it would be another procession in favour of the blue half of Manchester when Ilkay Gundogan scored the fastest goal in the competition's history of finals with only 12 seconds on the clock.

Man Utd stayed in the contest and took their chance to level when Jack Grealish was penalised for handball in the box. Bruno Fernandes sent Stefan Ortega the wrong way to equalise against the run of play, but the ultimately decisive blow would arrive in the 51st minute, again from Gundogan.

The German midfielder didn't catch his volley too cleanly but was aided by a ropy attempted save from David de Gea in what proved to be the Spaniard's final game for the Red Devils.

Man City hadn't clicked into their mechanical best by January 2023, with their hopes of Premier League title glory fading as Arsenal eyed up a first championship since 2003/04.

This Manchester derby defeat didn't aid their cause, though there was a smidge of controversy about the Red Devils' dramatic comeback in the closing stages.

Grealish had opened the scoring in the second half three minutes after his introduction as a substitute, but Fernandes levelled proceedings despite Marcus Rashford appearing to interfere from an offside position. It was the local lad who settled the match as he swept in Alejandro Garnacho's cross to close the gap on City to just one point.

Haaland's first taste of the Manchester derby proved to be a delicious one for Man City fans, but he wasn't alone in netting a hat-trick during this demolition in October 2022.

The Norwegian and Foden both netted braces in the first half before Man Utd woke up somewhat, Antony firing in to make it 4-1. However, the aforementioned City duo each bagged again to complete their trebles before Anthony Martial scored a late double to make the scoreboard the slightest bit more respectable.

Man Utd were in true free-fall mode under interim manager Ralf Rangnick when they visited the Etihad in March 2022.

Key players were absent for the abject Red Devils, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Luke Shaw among those ruled out. However, there was a modicum of optimism when Jadon Sancho equalised after Kevin De Bruyne's fifth-minute opener.

The gap in quality between the title chasers soon told as De Bruyne put City back ahead before Riyad Mahrez's second-half brace topped up a dominant scoreline.
