Liverpool travel to the capital for a Premier League meeting with West Ham United on Wednesday afternoon.

When mulling over Liverpool's unlikely chances of penetrating the top four, Jurgen Klopp offered: "Hopefully it's not too late." Only seven matches of this underwhelming season remain for Liverpool, with the gap to Manchester United in fourth as wide as nine points.

Here's the lineup Klopp may deploy against West Ham in a bid to reduce that margin, however temporarily.

GK: Alisson - Made to really work for each clean sheet he earns, Alisson has been forced to make more saves this year than any other season in his Premier League career.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - The author of 51 Premier League assists is still not the most prolific full back in the competition's history, with Everton stalwart Leighton Baines narrowly ahead on 53.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - When Didier Deschamps outlined why he called up Konate - who came on for France in the World Cup final - he said: “You’re not a starter in a Liverpool team, that were European champions, by accident.”

CB: Virgil van Dijk - In a wildly underwhelming reveal, Van Dijk's favourite soft drink is water - a decision shared by England manager Gareth Southgate incidentally.

LB: Andy Robertson - West Ham, with Sam Allardyce at the helm, were in the mix to sign Robertson from Dundee United in 2014 but opted for his compatriot Stephen Hendrie instead. Hendrie is currently back in Scotland with third-tier Queen of the South.

CM: Jordan Henderson - While all the talk has been of Alexander-Arnold's half-century of assists, Henderson's 54 in the Premier League is as many as Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Mesut Ozil ever got.

CM: Fabinho - If the waning defensive midfielder receives a yellow card on Wednesday, it will be a suspension-inducing tenth of the campaign.

CM: Curtis Jones - The Liverpool academy graduate has beaten West Ham more often than any other club in his career, winning all five meetings with the Hammers.

RW: Mohamed Salah - At the start of the season, Klopp claimed that Salah “found a right foot on holiday”, yet Liverpool's talisman became the most prolific left-footed scorer in Premier League history during his side's previous away game.

ST: Cody Gakpo - Comes from sporting stock with a father that played football for Togo and a mother that was a Dutch rugby international.

LW: Diogo Jota - After going one year and a week without a goal, Jota has netted four in the space of two matches, perfectly embodying Gianluca Vialli's theory on scoring. “For strikers," the late Italian forward reflected, "goals are like ketchup bottles, you tap, tap, tap and nothing comes out, then they splurge.”
