Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham will not face punishment for allegedly insulting Getafe forward Mason Greenwood.

Bellingham was accused of calling Greenwood a 'rapist' during Madrid's 2-0 win at Getafe at the start of February.

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, assault and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour by Greater Manchester Police in 2022. These charges were dropped in 2023 due to the withdrawal of key evidence, though this has frequently and erroneously been reported in Spain as Greenwood having been cleared of wrongdoing.

Getafe made a complaint over Bellingham's comment, which was caught on camera, to La Liga, with lip-reading experts being consulted on the matter.

However, MARCA report that it was not possible to determine whether Bellingham said 'rapist' or 'rubbish' and so he will not face any punishment. There had been calls for the England international to face a multi-match ban, though he has already been suspended for two matches in La Liga for his red card after Saturday's controversial 2-2 draw with Valencia in which he had a last-minute winner ruled out.

This recent skirmish between Bellingham and Greenwood is not the first time the two have been in headlines together. Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas claimed back in September that Bellingham had convinced Greenwood to move to Spain and the two were friends, but he had to backtrack on this statement soon after.

"I said that Greenwood came to Getafe because he had spoken with Bellingham. They have clarified to me that that was not the case. I apologise," Bordalas clarified.

Greenwood left Manchester United on loan last summer following public backlash over his potential reintegration into the first-team squad. He has recently been linked with a permanent move to Getafe as well as reigning La Liga champions Barcelona.
