Inter team news

The quality of Inter's squad turned from blessing to curse over the international break as Inzaghi is forced to relinquish a cadre of talent to their respective national teams.

Stefan de Vrij is thought to be ruled out for at least a week after he was forced off injured while on duty with the Netherlands. Alexis Sanchez also hobbled off while representing his country, though Nicolo Barella started both of Italy's games despite reportedly struggling with a knock he picked up in the Milan derby.

Edin Dzeko and Matteo Darmian were both also subbed off in Inter's 1-1 draw with their city rivals a fortnight ago with injury complaints. Darmian has returned to training but Inter's number nine is set to join centre back Alessandro Bastoni on an increasingly crowded treatment table.

Napoli team news

Spalletti, on the contrary, has been spared the selection restrictions enforced upon his opposite number this weekend. Aside from Diego Demme's positive COVID-19 test, Napoli have a complete squad for their trip to San Siro.

Inter vs Napoli predicted lineups

Inter: Handanovic; Skriniar, Ranocchia, Dimarco; Dumfries, Barella, Brozovic, Calhanoglu, Perisic; Correa, Lautaro.

Napoli: Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Koulibaly, Rui; Zielinski, Ruiz, Anguissa; Politano, Osimhen, Insigne.

Inter vs Napoli head-to-head record

Across 152 Serie A meetings Inter can boast 68 wins to Napoli's 46 in this clash between two members of Italy's modern Seven Sisters (Napoli are generally accepted to have taken the place of Parma following their financial implosion).

The Nerazzurri have particularly dominated at home, winning 50 of the 76 Serie A games against the Partenopei at San Siro, suffering just nine defeats in as many decades. In fact, Napoli haven't even so much as scored a league goal away to Inter since Jose Callejon found the net in 2017.

In the midst of a 21-game unbeaten run in Serie A stretching back to April, and with a continent low concession of just four goals in 12 games, Napoli appear untouchable.

However, Spalletti was granted a merciful fixture list to open the campaign, facing ten sides that finished ninth or lower last term. Juventus - who have endured a season to forget - are the only Champions League team Napoli have encountered so far.

Travelling to the home of the defending champions and this season's top scorers, Napoli are in for their toughest test by a wide margin, which may indeed end their unbeaten streak.

Prediction: Inter 2-1 Napoli
