Half an hour into his final appearance for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United, the opposition fans burst into a lively verse of "Harry Kane, we'll see you in June!"

However, Kane moved to Munich rather than Manchester during the summer of 2023. Ahead of Bayern Munich's Champions League group-stage opener against United a matter of weeks after Kane's arrival, the prolific forward insisted that Bavaria was "the right choice".

Kane's new manager Thomas Tuchel agreed. "Anyone in Europe who was looking for a No 9 would have been happy to have Harry in the team," the former Chelsea boss insisted. As Manchester United can attest, you certainly don't want Kane lining up against you.

Kane's maiden appearance at Old Trafford came before he had broken his way into Tottenham's first team. Replacing Roberto Soldado - incredibly sat ahead of Kane in the pecking order - Tottenham's then-number 37 got onto the pitch for the final 15 minutes of a rare away win against United.

Across Kane's first six appearances against the Red Devils, he failed to score.

It wasn't until United's trip to north London on the penultimate weekend of the 2016/17 season that Kane finally showed the northern giants his clinical edge up close. Incidentally, Kane's first goal against United was the last one any Tottenham player ever scored at White Hart Lane. A second half strike in May not only secured victory over Manchester United but ensured that Spurs went unbeaten at home throughout their final season at the Lane.

"Respect, respect, respect!" Kane certainly has plenty of it but that was what Jose Mourinho was demanding after Spurs, inspired by their talisman as ever, romped to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford in 2018.

Kane was at the epicentre of another Old Trafford implosion two years later - although, Mourinho was on the right side of the result this time.

In the midst of the bleak 2020/21 lockdown campaign, United's support were perhaps grateful not to be in the Theatre of Dreams for a nightmarish 6-1 hammering. Kane's quick free-kick set Son Heung-min away to score Tottenham's second after seven minutes. The South Korea international teed up Kane on the half-hour mark before England's skipper converted a penalty to seal the humiliation. Oddly enough, Mourinho didn't demand any respect on that afternoon.

Between the summer of 2019 and his free transfer to Juventus three years later, Paul Pogba scored fewer goals at Old Trafford (one) than Kane (three).

However, a tally of five goals from 18 Premier League appearances against the Red Devils is one of Kane's less impressive records in the competition. During his time in England's top flight, 16 clubs conceded more goals at the feet of Tottenham's talisman than United.

Furthermore, Kane has only lost more games to Chelsea (11) than Manchester United (ten) across all competitions.

Kane was already 23 and had played 180 competitive club games - including 18 in England's third tier - before he made his Champions League debut for Tottenham against Monaco in 2016. Tottenham's number ten failed to score but that would prove to be a gross anomaly.

Across his subsequent four appearances in Europe's premier club competition, Kane racked up seven goals. The first player to ever score nine goals across his opening nine games in the competition was making up for lost time.

A second-half brace from Kane helped overturn a 2-0 first-half deficit against Olympiacos in November 2019, taking his tally to 20 Champions League goals after just 24 appearances. No player had ever hit that mark quicker in the competition's history at the time but a certain Erling Haaland needed just 14 games to smash Kane's milestone.

Despite continuously ranking as one of the most prolific players domestically, Kane only enjoyed one more Champions League season with Tottenham. Across his final campaign in north London, Kane scored just once in Europe - fewer than even Richarlison.
