England manager Gareth Southgate will delay picking his final 26-man squad for the upcoming European Championships.

The Three Lions squad was due to be announced at lunchtime on Tuesday, but a number of injury concerns - as well as three English clubs competing in European finals this week - mean that the decision on a final roster will be delayed.

Sky Sports report that Southgate will instead name a larger provisional squad on Tuesday instead, before whittling the team down to 26 players on June 1.

A number of key England players are facing a race against time in order to prove their fitness for the Euros, including Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Man Utd skipper Harry Maguire.

The latter has travelled with United to Gdansk for the Europa League final, though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make a decision on the day of the game on what role Maguire will play.

Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips has also emerged as an injury doubt in recent days, while Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is expected to miss out on the tournament with a knee problem.

Even though Southgate's new deadline is set for June 1, UEFA has allowed nations to alter their squads right up until the day of their first matches at the Euros due to the impracticalities brought about by the pandemic.

England kick off their campaign against Croatia at Wembley on June 13, which would give Southgate just under two weeks to amend his selection should he need to.

Sky Sports add that more than 30 players are awaiting a call from Southgate to discover their fate, though now many of them will have to wait a little bit longer to discover if they're part of the final squad.
