Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the loan signing of midfielder Donny van de Beek from Manchester United.

Van de Beek came close to joining Real Sociedad on loan during the summer but saw talks collapse, after which he was handed just 21 minutes of action by Erik ten Hag over the first half of the campaign.

Frankfurt struck a deal to land Van de Beek in December and have now completed the loan signing, which comes with an option to buy that 90min understands is less than half of the £40m United paid to sign the 26-year-old in 2020.

"Donny van de Beek fits our game idea perfectly and is an important piece of the puzzle for our team," Frankfurt director Markus Krosche said. "He brings a wealth of international experience that our young players will benefit from.

"Donny exudes a goal-scoring threat and, above all, should put our attackers in promising positions."

The move inches Van de Beek closer to the end of his nightmare at Old Trafford. Touted as one of Europe's top midfielders when he joined four years ago, the 2019 Ballon d'Or nominee would immediately find minutes hard to come by.

He has 62 appearances for United to his name, just six of which were Premier League starts, as a combination of both injuries and lack of trust from various managers ultimately left him overlooked.

Van de Beek will hope the move to Frankfurt, who sit sixth in the Bundesliga, will help him return to the electric form he flashed at Ajax earlier in his career.
