Manchester United have agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt that will see Donny van de Beek join on an initial loan deal with option to buy, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Van de Beek has struggled to make an impact since joining the Red Devils from Ajax in a deal worth £40m - initially £35m plus £5m in add-ons - back in 2020 and had an unsuccessful loan spell at Everton two seasons ago.

The 26-year-old has played only 21 minutes of football all season and has made just 12 United appearances since Erik ten Hag, who managed him at Ajax, took charge of the club in the summer of 2022.

90min understands that a deal has now been agreed with Frankfurt, where he will spend the second half of the season on loan. The agreement between United and the former Europa League winners includes an option to buy as well as triggers which could also make the deal permanent, but is understood to be worth less than half of what United paid for the Dutchman.

Van de Beek is keen on the move and Frankfurt hope to receive permission from United to have him join up with the squad before the end of 2023 in order to be integrated into the first-team squad quicker.

Frankfurt's final game before the Bundesliga winter break comes on December 20 at home to Borussia Monchengladbach and they return to action on January 13 away at RB Leipzig.

90min revealed on Tuesday that Frankfurt had been hopeful of sealing a deal for Van de Beek having entered negotiations with United more quickly than other sides interested in his signature.

Real Sociedad - who held talks with United about Van de Beek during the summer before negotiations fell through - remained interested, while La Liga leaders Girona were also looking at a deal.

Former side Ajax would like to have taken the 26-year-old back, while there was also interest from Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Fulham. But Van de Beek is in line to head to Germany with Frankfurt instead.

Van de Beek may not be the only United player heading for the exit door in January. 90min understands that Casemiro, a target for the Saudi Pro League, has accepted that his time at the club is coming to an end, while Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial also face uncertain futures as they have either been frozen out by Ten Hag or are out of contract at the end of the season.
