Brentford predicted lineup vs Newcastle - Premier League

Brentford will aim to avoid a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat on Saturday afternoon as they travel to a Newcastle United side awaiting a first win of the entire campaign.

Currently in the midst of their worst run under manager Thomas Frank, the Bees haven't lost five league fixtures on the spin since the distant days of 2007, when they were operating in England's fourth tier.

Here's the starting XI Frank may select from his injury-riddled squad to end their barren streak.

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Alvaro Fernandez (GK) - As Brentford's undisputed number one David Raya continues to nurse an injury, Fernandez is set for a spell between the sticks that will extend long after the new year.

Charlie Goode (CB) - Arguably Brentford's sixth-choice centre back when everyone is fit, absences have opened the door for Goode, who was playing in League Two 18 months ago.

Pontus Jansson (CB) - Having missed just nine Premier League minutes all season, the club captain is perhaps the most important defensive figure to have hurdled the injury onslaught.

Ethan Pinnock (CB) - At a club fabled for its prolific squad turnover, Pinnock's ability to rack up triple digits for Brentford appearances is even more impressive.

2. Midfielders & wingbacks

Sergi Canos (RWB) - Last season's prolific provider (nine assists across all competitions) is yet to create or score a league goal since netting the club's first ever strike in Premier League history.

Vitaly Janelt (CM) - The 23-year-old midfield snapper has come a long way from being banished by his country's youth team as a teenager after a fire sparked in his hotel room while on duty with Germany's U19s.

Christian Norgaard (CM) - Brentford's chief tackler, interceptor and presser is an invaluable cog at the heart of midfield.

Saman Ghoddos (CM) - One of the few players to have actually improved their reputation after consecutive defeats to strugglers Burnley and Norwich (with a goal and an assist off the bench), the Iran international may have earned a place ahead of the doubtful (and underwhelming) Mathias Jensen.

Rico Henry (LWB) - Brentford's longest-serving player in the current squad went into the international break buoyed by just his third goal for the club on his 130th appearance.

3. Forwards

Bryan Mbeumo (ST) - Unquestionably the Premier League's unluckiest player, Mbeumo has hit the post on six separate occasions this term alone - more than 16 entire teams in the division.

Ivan Toney (ST) - The former Newcastle player could end a run of six league matches without finding the net by almost predictably scoring against his former club - the Magpies have conceded more Premier League goals to players who used to play for them than any other side (49).
