Atletico Madrid team news

While Jose Maria Gimenez returned from a muscular injury in time for Atletico's listless 2-0 defeat away to Athletic Club last weekend, Joao Felix and Thomas Lemar are not yet ready to feature.

A bleak defeat also saw Atletico lose Mario Hermoso and Reinildo to suspension for the Madrid derby as they both picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season. Atletico had an appeal to overturn Reinildo's booking rebuffed ahead of the game.

Real Madrid team news

Gareth Bale missed Real's title celebrations last weekend due to some ill-timed back spasms as he winds down his career in the Spanish capital from the sidelines. Eden Hazard has returned to training but didn't make the squad for their dramatic Champions League victory against Manchester City in midweek.

Eder Militao seemingly spent the second half of extra-time in that tie stretching out his groin, undermining his potential involvement this weekend. Fellow centre-back David Alaba was only fit enough for the bench but his replacement Nacho Fernandez served his one-game suspension in La Liga last Saturday.

With three weeks until the Champions League final, Carlo Ancelotti has time to manage his squad ahead of the showpiece.

Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid score prediction

After two gruelling but ultimately glorious hours of Champions League football for Real on Wednesday night, the legs may be a little heavy this weekend - especially without any carrot in La Liga left to play for.

Naturally, bragging rights are still on offer but the economic peril Atletico would find themselves in if they were to miss out on Champions League football sharpens the mind a bit more - or, at least it should do.

Prediction: Atletico Madrid 1-1 Real Madrid
