Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans is set to miss 'a few weeks' more of action as a result of an injury to his calf suffered before the international break.

Tielemans was taken off in the late stages of the Foxes' 1-1 draw with Leeds following a collision with goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

Initial scans identified damage to Tielemans' ankle and calf, and although he has had the international pause to recuperate having missed Belgium's two final World Cup qualifiers, Leicester head coach Brendan Rodgers has revealed he faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

“Most of the guys have come back ok," said Rodgers as he addressed the media ahead of the Premier League visit of Chelsea on Saturday. "We had the issue with Youri before he left, so that puts him out for a few weeks. Apart from that, the players have trained well. We’re fit and healthy otherwise."

Asked exactly when the midfielder would return, Rodgers added: “He’ll be back before Christmas.”

The 24-year-old currently finds himself on a run of 67 consecutive Premier League appearances - the longest of any outfield player in the position - but that is set to come to an end.

Instead, Tielemans will remain on the sidelines with long-term absentee Wesley Fofana.

Although the Foxes are without one of their most important players, they welcome back Marc Albrighton after the international break and there is also a confidence that full-back James Justin will return in the coming weeks too.

Justin hasn't been seen since February, when he suffered a nasty knee injury which ended his outside hopes of making the England squad for Euro 2020.

When asked about Albrighton and Justin's progress, Rodgers said: “Marc’s been back training so that’s really good news. JJ has looked really good but it’s too early for him. We want to get him minutes with the U23s and we have a plan in place for that.

"He’s physically very strong, he’s a real athlete. We just want to make sure he’s ready before he comes in.”
