Chelsea claimed the bragging rights as west met north in Thursday night’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side claimed a first win since thrashing Everton almost three weeks ago and reignites their hopes of creeping into the top seven and returning to Europe next season.

For Spurs, this was a third successive defeat and makes it increasingly likely they will be playing Europa League football rather than Champions League football in 2024/25, with a seven-point gap to fourth place Aston Villa not realistic to close with so few games left.

This fixture always has the potential to get spicy. Remember that handshake?

Trevoh Chalobah headed Chelsea into the lead midway through the first half.

But there was also a long VAR review as checks were made for an offside and possible foul.

Chalobah had waited a long time for it.

Proving his critics wrong in the process.

Ultimately, it wasn't good defending from Spurs.

Nicolas Jackson doubled Chelsea's as the clock ticked into the final 20 minutes, converting the rebound when Cole Palmer's free-kick came back off the bar.

His record against Spurs since moving to England has been excellent.

It was also a bit of team landmark after a lack of goalscorers in recent years.

People did not rate Son Heung-min's performance.

It was just not a good night for Spurs.

But it was a big night for Chelsea youngsters too.

The main hero of the night was Marc Cucurella, who hasn't had an easy ride at Chelsea.
