FIFA have confirmed that there are no plans to change the length of matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

A report in Italy, which suggested matches could be extended from 90 minutes to 100, took social media by storm on Wednesday - five days after April Fool's Day.

Unsurprisingly, FIFA have now come out to rubbish the idea.

"Following some reports and rumours spread today, FIFA would like to clarify that there will be no changes to the rules regarding the length of football matches for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, or any other competition," a statement read.

The rumours claimed to stem from a recent report from CIES which revealed that most major European leagues see just over 60 minutes of action during an average game, with close to half an hour lost to anything from throw-ins to time-wasting.

Whether something will be done about that remains to be seen, but 100-minute matches aren't going to be the answer.
