After both losing 1-0 on Saturday (to Aston Villa and Everton respectively) this midweek clash between Wolves and Chelsea sees both teams looking for redemption.

Wolves can arguably say they had the better chances against their Midlands rivals Villa, but were left to rue their mistakes after Nelson Semedo brought down John McGinn in the box late into injury time. Anwar El Ghazi subsequently tucked away the penalty nabbing all three points for the Villans.

Chelsea were just as wasteful, succumbing to a hard-fought performance from Everton. They too gifted their opponents a decisive penalty, this time from the unlikely source of Edouard Mendy.

Wolves and Chelsea won't get to dwell on those defeats too long luckily, as Tuesday provides them with a perfect opportunity to put the games behind them before the thick-and-fast Christmas schedule begins.

Team News

With Raul Jimenez missing up top, club record £35.6m summer signing Fabio Silva was given his first Premier League start against Aston Villa. The 18-year-old Portuguese looked lively and was unlucky to hit the post with a deft shot midway through the second half. A good starting debut, but if Wolves are to start to climb the table in the absence of Jimenez, Silva is going to have net his chances.

Joao Moutinho got himself needlessly sent off in the final minute of the game, taking his frustrations out with a trip on Jacob Ramsey. That second yellow card means he is suspended for the game in midweek, but the only other notable Wolves absentee from injury besides Jimenez is left-back Jonny Otto.

Christian Pulisic was a surprise admission from the Chelsea squad that lost to Everton, after originally being considered ready for action again. Frank Lampard stated afterwards that Pulisic felt an 'awareness' in his hamstring and was omitted just to be on the safe side – and may be available yet again.

The impressive Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi are both also sidelined with hamstring injuries, with both looking to return for the London derby with Arsenal on Boxing Day.

Chelsea have no concerns in all other areas of the pitch, with Olivier Giroud, Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham all jostling for starts at the top of Chelsea's attack.

Predicted Lineups

Wolves: Patricio; Semedo, Boly, Coady, Marcal; Traore, Dendoncker, Podence, Neves, Neto; Silva.

Chelsea: Mendy; James, Zouma, Silva, Chilwell; Havertz, Kanté, Mount; Pulisic, Giroud, Werner.

Recent Form

Since their impressive away win at Arsenal, the game Jimenez suffered his sickening injury, Wolves have lost two on the bounce. They haven't won at home since 30th October, with that 2-0 win over Crystal Palace also being the last time they kept a clean sheet. Nuno Espirito Santo's shift to a back four hasn't paid dividends yet, with the team conceding seven goals in four games since the change.

The other worry for Wolves is their lack of goals. Without Jimenez leading, it is a tall ask for Silva to step up so quickly to the Premier League's pace and style of play. With three goals in their last five games, the team as a collective are going to have to chip in goals if they want to avoid looking down the table.

The loss to Everton was only Chelsea's second of the league season, the first coming against the Toffees' city rivals Liverpool all the way back on matchday two of the season. With the purchase of Mendy, Lampard's goalkeeper woes appeared over – but the Senegalese stopper will have to prove himself all over again after giving away the spot kick.

Prediction

A tough game to call, with both teams wanting to forget about their previous result as quick as possible. It's a shame Molineux will remain empty, with fans still being restricted to attend in the Tier 3 area, as this would have been the perfect game for them to rally behind their team.

Prediction: Wolves 0-2 Chelsea
