Borussia Dortmund boosted their hopes of qualifying for next season's Champions League as Erling Haaland's brace earned a 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg.

BVB have been uncharacteristically shaky in the Bundesliga this season, and came into the game knowing victory was essential if they had any chance of catching Wolfsburg and Frankfurt in the race to finish in the top four.

After a fairly uneventful opening 12 minutes, it was man of the moment Haaland who got the ball rolling after capitalising on a mistake in Wolfsburg's defence to fire past Koen Casteels.

The home side had plenty of efforts on goal, but their inability to really test Marwin Hitz in Dortmund's goal would ultimately prove their downfall - despite Jude Bellingham's sending off just before the hour mark for two yellow cards.

Instead, it was Haaland who put the game out of sight - collecting Mahmoud Dahoud's through ball to sprint away from inside his own half before coolly slotting past Casteels.

Enough of all that, let's rate Dortmund's players...

Borussia Dortmund player ratings

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Raphael Guerreiro

Marwin Hitz (GK) - 6/10 - Wolfsburg applied plenty of pressure, particularly when Dortmund were down to 10-men, but allowed Hitz to enjoy a relatively comfortable afternoon.

Lukasz Piszczek (RB) - 7/10 -
Put in some sumptuous crosses from the right flank, offering plenty of width going forward.

Manuel Akanji (CB) - 7/10 -
A solid shift for Akanji, who put himself about well to combat the threat of Wout Weghorst.

Emre Can (CB) - 6/10 -
Not sure he'll ever make for a convincing central defender, but a decent enough showing from Can.

Raphael Guerreiro (LB) - 7/10 -
Tremendous energy, deft touches and excellent positioning. Guerreiro deserves to be playing in the Champions League.

2. Midfielders

Jude Bellingham

Jude Bellingham (CM) - 4/10 - A rude awakening for England's boy wonder, carelessly getting himself dismissed after picking up two yellow cards. Could have cost his side with his ill-discipline.

Mahmoud Dahoud (CM) - 7/10 - Superbly marshalled proceedings in midfield and played a delightful through ball to Haaland for his second.

Marco Reus (AM) - 8/10 - Dazzled again in the number ten role, showing the class we all know he has. Such a good player to watch in full flow.

3. Forwards

Giovanni Reyna (RW) - 6/10 - A little subdued but Reyna is still learning his craft in a team full of exciting potential.

Erling Haaland (ST) - 9/10 - Is genuinely frightening when he's in full flow, running at blistering speed with that awkward hunched over stance. Great anticipation and composure for the first goal, while his second was out of this world good.

Jadon Sancho (LW) - 6/10 - Sacrificed for Delaney on the hour mark as Dortmund needed to change shape after Bellingham's red card. Looked bright but working his way back to fitness.

4. Substitutes

Thomas Delaney - 6/10

Thorgan Hazard - 6/10

Thomas Meunier - N/A -
