Thomas Tuchel will serve a touchline ban when Bayern Munich welcome Manchester United to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.

Bayern and Man Utd face off against one another in their first UEFA Champions League group stage game of the season, in what is one of the blockbuster games of gameweek one of Europe's elite competition.

The two sides have been drawn together in Group A along with Kobenhavn and Galatasaray, and will both be confident of making it through to the round of 16 this season.

Both Bayern and Man Utd head into the game on the back of a rather disappointing result at the weekend. The former conceded a 94th minute equaliser against title rivals Bayer Leverkusen on Friday evening, while the latter were totally embarrassed at Old Trafford by Brighton and Hove Albion - losing 3-1 on Saturday.

While a draw was Bayern's first game they haven't won so far this season, the defeat to Brighton was Man Utd's third already in the Premier League, with the other two coming at the hands of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Although Man Utd head into the game on Wednesday in much, much worse form than Bayern, they may be buoyed by the news that their opposition's manager Tuchel will not be allowed in the dugout to bark instructions at his talented team.

Tuchel is set to serve a touchline ban in the game against Man Utd after he was sent off in Bayern's final Champions League game of last season - a defeat to Manchester City at the Allianz Arena.

The ex-Chelsea boss was sent off during the quarter-final of Bayern's second leg tie with Man City - a game they drew 1-1 after being beaten 3-0 in the first leg - after having to be held back by one of his assistants while lambasting the referee following an incident on the halfway line involving Kingsley Coman and Aymeric Laporte.

First-team coaches Zsolt Low and Anthony Barry will be on the touchline, while Tuchel will sit in the stands with assistant Arno Michels.
