Why aren't Chelsea and Tottenham's Carabao Cup games on TV?

The Carabao Cup second round takes place this week with Chelsea and Tottenham among the teams in action.

Both London sides endured miserable 2022/23 campaigns in the Premier League - Spurs coming eighth and the Blues 12th - and will be involved in this early stage of the competition due to their lack of European football.

Broadcasters have also elected not to put either of the top-flight sides on television screens this week. Here's why neither Chelsea nor Tottenham are on TV in the Carabao Cup's second round.

Why aren't Chelsea and Tottenham's Carabao Cup games on TV?

Chelsea are at home to Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup's second round while Tottenham will visit Fulham, but neither game was picked up by broadcasters for live coverage. Instead, the matches picked out were Leeds United's trip to Salford City and Everton's visit to Doncaster Rovers.

Leeds were relegated from the Premier League last term and have started averagely this time around, drawing two games alongside a win and a loss apiece in the Championship. Opponents Salford are in a similar mid-table position down in League Two but have lost two of their last three games.

Wednesday night sees hapless Everton travel to Doncaster hoping not to add another nadir to Sean Dyche's unravelling spell in charge of the Toffees.

Three defeats on the trot have Everton down at the bottom of the Premier League, though Doncaster hold the same spot in League Two and have shipped 12 goals already in five games.

Chelsea's game against Wimbledon has little television information available for broadcasting in the United States or Canada, but Tottenham's trip to Fulham will be shown on ESPN+ and DAZN in North America.

The game will be available for radio listeners on talkSPORT 2, while full round highlights will be shared on ITV and on teams' official YouTube channels.

When are Chelsea and Tottenham next on TV?

Chelsea and Tottenham both play at 15:00 BST on Saturday 2 September in the final round of Premier League games before the international break. Spurs will play in the same slot after those national fixtures are completed, but Chelsea face a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday at 14:00 in a game which will be shown on Sky Sports.

The Blues will return to Saturday action when they host Aston Villa on Saturday 23 September before Tottenham enjoy the live Sky cameras at the Emirates Stadium the following Sunday for the north London derby against Arsenal.

If both Chelsea and Tottenham make it into the third round, their games will be in contention for television coverage when the competition resumes the week commencing 25 September. European qualifiers like Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal will enter the competition at the third round.
