Argentina continued their resurgence at this year's World Cup by beating the Netherlands in the quarter finals to reach the final four.

La Albiceleste were one of the tournament favourites heading to Qatar but a shock defeat to Saudi Arabia had them playing catch up in Group C, where they eventually finished first ahead of runners up Poland.

Victory over Australia in the last 16 set up the clash with Louis van Gaal's Netherlands, where the Copa America champions secured a penalty shoot-out victory to reach the final four of the competition.

Here's who Argentina are on track to face in the semi finals.

Who will Argentina face in the World Cup semi finals?

Victory over the Netherlands in the quarter finals has set up a meeting with Croatia in the last four.

Croatia provided one of the shocks of the tournament to eliminate Brazil. After 90 goalless minutes, Neymar opened the scoring in the first half of extra time but Bruno Petkovic's 117th minute effort took the game to spot kicks.

Rodrygo and Marquinhos both missed from the spot as Croatia scored all four of their efforts in the shootout.

Who could Argentina face in the final?

Argentina are on one side of the knockout bracket alongside fellow semi finalists Croatia. Should they win that clash, they would reach the final for the second time in three tournaments, being beaten by Germany in extra time in 2014.

There they would face England, France, Portugal or Morocco. The two remaining semi finals take place on Saturday, when England face France and Portugal battle Morocco.
