Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain meet in a blockbuster Champions League last 16 clash in Germany, and if the first leg is anything to go by the referee will have a tough time controlling it.

PSG will have to chase the game having lost the first game 1-0, and with their vast array of attacking talent, that could be a recipe for an absolute cracker.

It will almost certainly need a strong referee, but who have UEFA appointed?

Who is the referee for Bayern vs PSG?

Daniele Orsato (ITA) will be in charge for the crucial Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and PSG.

The Italian has a wealth of experience and this one will be his 47th Champions League game.

As well as that, he has officiated 268 Serie A matches in his career so far and many internationals too including games at the 2022 World Cup and EURO 2020.

If Bayern Munich and PSG fans are thinking they have seen the name before, then it is with very good reason.

He was the referee when the two sides met in the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon, which the German side won 1-0.

Orsato also took charge of the 2021 quarter-final second leg between the two sides. Bayern won that one 1-0 as well, though were knocked out on aggregate.

He has also overseen wins over Sevila and Benfica, while a 3-1 home defeat to Liverpool was the only time Bayern have failed to win in a match officiated by Orsato.

Daniele Orsato record in PSG games

Paris Saint-Germain have been very well acquainted with Daniele Orsato over the years. He has taken charge of seven games involving the Ligue 1 side in the last five years.

That has certainly produced a real mixed bag of results, though.

The Parisians have lost three of those games, including the two against Bayern Munich previously mentioned. The other was a Group Stage defeat to Manchester City.

However, there have been plenty of good experiences too. He was the man in the middle when they beat Man Utd at 2-0 at Old Trafford in the 2019 quarter-final and he also oversaw their 1-0 win against Real Madrid in the last eight last year. PSG did ultimately lose that tie, though.

There was another win at Old Trafford in there too, as well as a 5-0 hammering of Celtic.

Who is the VAR for Bayern vs PSG

Paolo Valeri (ITA) will be the video assistant referee in this one, and he will be taking up the role for the sixth time in Champions League this season.

None of those have involved either Bayern Munich or PSG, though.
