Messi's heroics thrust Inter Miami into the last eight of the Leagues Cup, and they'll face the winners of the Charlotte FC vs Houston Dynamo clash in the next round.

Their quarter-final bout has been scheduled for Friday 11 August, but the fixture's kick-off time has not yet been disclosed.

The supreme Argentine will fancy his chances of spearheading yet another Inter Miami triumph on Friday whoever they face. Houston Dynamo are a middling outfit in the Western Conference, while Charlotte accumulated just 26 points from their opening 23 games in MLS this season.

When will Lionel Messi play for Inter Miami in MLS?

MLS' mid-season break means were yet to see Messi in league action for his new club. All his stellar work has come in the Leagues Cup so far.

However, it's not long until Messi makes his MLS bow. Inter Miami's first game back is scheduled for 20 August against potential quarter-final opponents FC Charlotte.

David Beckham's club were nothing short of a mess to begin 2023, and they entered the break bottom of the pile in the Eastern Conference having picked up just 18 points from 22 games. Messi, though, has rapidly altered their fortunes and projections for the second half of the season. The Argentine and his former Barcelona teammates will be expected to facilitate a major upsurge in MLS and help his side into the post-season with 16 games remaining.

Miami are currently 12 points adrift of DC United in the final post-season spot, so Messi and company have plenty of work to do.
