The difference in quality is probably as stark as it has ever been, but the Manchester derby remains one of the Premier League's most anticipated fixtures each season.

City are the reigning champions, having secured the title on the final day of the season, while United lagged 35 points behind in sixth following disastrous spells under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

Erik ten Hag is the new boss at Old Trafford northand is the latest to be tasked with hauling United closer to Pep Guardiola's City.

When is the Manchester derby in 2022/23?

Erik ten Hag will have the best part of two months to prepare his United side for the first time they'll face City this season, with the pair set to face off on 1 October at the Etihad.

They will then be kept apart until 2023, when they''ll meet again on 14 January.

Manchester United 2022/23 Premier League fixtures

Ten Hag's first Premier League fixture as United manager will be at Old Trafford against Brighton, who beat the Red Devils 4-0 at the AMEX at the end of the 2021/22 season.

A trip to Brentford will be followed by a home clash with bitter rivals Liverpool before further games against Southampton and Leicester.

Their run-in during May includes meetings with West Ham, Wolves and Fulham.


Manchester City 2022/23 Premier League fixtures

Champions City visit West Ham on the opening weekend of the season, with their first home game being a clash with newly-promoted Bournemouth.

It's a relatively relaxed schedule until Tottenham visit in September while October sees the Citizens face United, Liverpool and Arsenal.

In May, they'll travel to Brentford for the final game of the season, while a game with Chelsea in their penultimate fixture could be tasty.

City swept United aside in convincing fashion in both games last season to record 2-0 and 4-1 victories.

Guardiola got the better of Ole Solskjaer in November as an Eric Bailly own goal and Bernardo Silva's effort saw them over the line, while Ralf Rangnick's charges were embarrassed at the Etihad.

Kevin De Bruyne had a field day as he scored twice in the first half either side of Jadon Sancho's surprising equaliser before Riyad Mahrez got a brace of his own later on.
