The absence of Manchester City renders the 2023/24 Carabao Cup a wide open competition.

While the Cityzens haven't lifted this trophy since 2021, their recent domination of the competition left their rivals dispirited. It was seemingly inevitable that Pep Guardiola's side would be lifting the Carabao Cup aloft in February.

However, a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle in round three means they won't be in fourth-round action this week or in the hat for the quarter-final draw.

As we swiftly approach the business end of the competition, here's everything you need to know about the draw for the last eight.

Two teams booked their place in the quarter-finals on Tuesday night. Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough edged a thrilling cup tie away at League One Exeter, winning 3-2 after falling behind and being pegged back after taking a 2-1 lead.

There was no upset in Tuesday's other fixture as League Two Mansfield Town fell at home to Port Vale. The League One side edged the contest 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Tottenham loanee Alfie Devine.

The remaining six fixtures will take place on Wednesday night.

Four of the remaining six fixtures are all-Premier League affairs. Arsenal's visit to West Ham kicks off the night's televised action before Manchester United host Newcastle in a repeat of last season's final. Erik ten Hag is yet to lose a game in this competition.

Bournemouth host Liverpool at the Vitality, while Everton take on Burnley at Goodison Park.

The other two contests see the Premier League face off against the Championship. Chelsea will be hoping to advance into the last eight when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge, while Fulham should be on upset alert when they travel to Kieran McKenna's high-flying Ipswich Town.
