Tottenham winger Bryan Gil will report for his first day of training on Wednesday following his summer arrival from Sevilla and has a chance of making his debut at the weekend.

Gil was signed for just over £20m in July, with Erik Lamela also heading in the opposite direction as part of the deal. But the 20-year-old was on international duty with Spain at the Olympics, where he won a silver medal, until only a few days ago.

Since the end of last season on loan with Eibar, Gil had also been involved in the knockout stages of the Under-21 European Championship. But he did get some time off in between the summer competitions and The Athletic has reported there are no fitness concerns.

Gil is expected to be tested by medical staff at Spurs’ training ground on Wednesday and, if deemed healthy, will immediately link up with the main squad.

Spurs face Manchester City in their opening Premier League fixture of the season on Sunday and while there are doubt that Gil will be ready to be included, it is said that he is at least under consideration for manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Gil is so far one of three new arrivals at Spurs since the end of last season alongside goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini and centre-back Cristian Romero, both of whom have joined from Atalanta.

The pair are initially on loan from the Serie A club with an option to buy next summer.

Gollini, who spent time at Manchester United in his youth and played for Aston Villa in the Championship, will provide cover and competition for Hugo Lloris.

Romero, meanwhile, will be tasked with replacing Toby Alderweireld at the heart of the defence following the veteran Belgian’s summer move to Qatar.
