Liverpool's hunt for a new holding midfielder has been nothing short of a train-wreck this summer, with Chelsea pipping the Reds to their two preferred transfer targets.

Their woes in securing a long-term successor to Fabinho have forced sporting director Jorg Schmadtke to fish in more familiar waters, and the German has plucked out a Japan international from Stuttgart.

While highly-regarded in Germany, very few Liverpool supporters would've been aware of Wataru Endo and even fewer would've considered him as a serious option for the Reds.

At 30-years-old, Endo doesn't appear to be a long-term option for the Merseyside club, and it'd be a huge surprise if they don't acquire another midfielder before the end of the window.

Here are the shirt numbers he could potentially wear at his new home.

Endo has donned a whole host of numbers throughout his career, though he has typically stayed loyal to a couple of preferred options.

His love for the 3 has shone through since the early stages of his career at Shonan Bellmare. He wore that number exclusively at Stuttgart, and most of his other alternatives have been a multiple of 3.

Liverpool available shirt numbers

An array of departures mean there are several shirt numbers available to Endo, including his favoured 3 which Fabinho vacated earlier this summer.

Other numbers include 2, 14, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 33.

Every number between 33 and Trent Alexander-Arnold's 66 are also available, but 3 is certainly the obvious choice.
