Wataru Endo has picked Alisson Becker as the player who has impressed him the most since joining Liverpool.

The Japan international was one of four central midfielders the Reds signed during the summer transfer window in what was a complete overhaul of the club's midfield options. Endo signed from VfB Stuttgart for a fee in the region of £17.5m and has since made five appearances for Liverpool - two of which have been starts.

Speaking about life at Liverpool with the club's official website, Endo was asked which of his new teammates has impressed him the most in his short stint at Anfield thus far, replying: "All the players have very high skills here and among them I think the goalkeeper Alisson is great.

"I have played with a lot of 'keepers but his ability to stop shots is excellent. Of course, the forward players have very high skills and the other players are very skilful as well, but Alisson's ability to stop shots is brilliant.

"He saves the team from dangerous situations and he is very powerful."

Alisson has been back to his best since the start of the 2023/24 season, making a number of crucial, and incredible, saves to maintain Liverpool's unbeaten start.

The number one's most notable contribution of the campaign thus far was undoubtedly his Castrol Save of the Month stop to deny Miguel Almiron a certain goal in Liverpool's dramatic win over Newcastle United - a game in which Darwin Nunez scored a late winner for the ten-man Reds side.

Endo also took the time to discuss his role in Liverpool's tactical set-up, detailing how he sees himself fitting into the lineup: "I am always conscious about whether I can be in the best position both defensively and offensively.

"When we are attacking, I see if I can be between the opponents' forwards and midfielders, or I think how they are trying to put pressure on us. Every team has a system. I try to see which player tries to put pressure on me and change my position based on what I see – and change where to move the ball to.

"It is the same for defence. I see how the opponents move a ball in their system and think how I defend when a particular player makes a move. I always think about these things while playing."

Endo is expected to get minutes this week when Liverpool face off against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup.
