Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has vowed to remain with the Portuguese giants beyond the January transfer window despite rumours of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

The 25-year-old Sweden international joined Sporting during the summer from Championship side Coventry City for around £20m and has been an instant hit with his new club, racking up 17 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both reported to have added Gyokeres to their list of potential January transfer targets, although the two London rivals face having to trigger his release clause of €100m (£86.7m) to convince Sporting to pick up the phone.

Even then, interested parties may struggle to convince Gyokeres to join as the striker has publicly pledged to stay with Sporting until the end of the current season at least.

"I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me," he told Record when asked about interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.

"I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all."

Asked directly whether he would promise fans he will stay with Sporting for the rest of the season, Gyokeres added: "Yes. This is where I want to stay."

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are exploring moves for a new striker heading into the January transfer window and the two clubs are both known admirers of Brentford's Ivan Toney, who brings a similar price tag to Gyokeres.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen is another known target for Chelsea but the Nigeria international has just signed a new contract, although his new deal includes a release clause intended to facilitate a future departure.
