After 36 years of disappointment after disappointment, Argentina have finally won the FIFA World Cup for a third time.

And they did it in the most dramatic of fashions.

Having dominated the opening 75 minutes of the game and taken a seemingly unassailable lead thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, a quickfire brace from Kylian Mbappe would send the final to extra time.

Argentina once again thought they'd won it with an extra time goal from Messi, before Mbappe stepped up to score a penalty, make it 3-3, and take the game to a dramatic penalty shootout - a shootout that La Albiceleste would win 4-2.

It's fair to say that the winning penalty from Gonzalo Montiel was well received back in Buenos Aires:

Indeed, throughout the game those Argentina fans who weren't fortunate enough to be in Qatar were out in force on the streets celebrating every kick of the ball.

Particularly Lionel Messi's kicks of the ball:

The scenes after the final whistle were truly extraordinary, with CNN reporters being hilariously soaked with beer (?):

Fan-parks being full to the brim with fans, young and old:

With the younger fans throwing out some impressive dance moves:

It wasn't just back in Argentina that fans were celebrating Messi and co.'s triumph as over in Naples, Italy, fans who remember Diego Maradona's heroics for SSC Napoli were out in force too in order to will on the footballing legend's nation:

The remarkable, generation-defining, triumph in Qatar will likely be celebrated for days, weeks, even months to come throughout Argentina and most parts of Naples too.
