After a ludicrous amount of unnecessary preamble, awards and interviews, the 2020 Champions League group stage draw was finally made on Thursday.

As always, the draw through up a host of potential storylines for social media to get their teeth stuck into.

Here are some of the very best reactions we managed to find...

Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo

Well, well, well. After a couple of seasons apart long time sparring partners Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will be renewing their rivalry in the Champions League next season.

That's because Barcelona were drawn into Group G alongside Juventus, Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencvaros. As you would expect, football Twitter reacted in a typically balanced and rational way.

Manchester United's Group of Death

It wasn't quite as bad as the 'worst case scenario' we planned out on Wednesday, but Manchester United's draw was still pretty shambolic.

Taking on two of last season's four semi finalists - Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig - is going to be a tough task. At least the trip to Istanbul Basaksehir should be alright...

Manchester City With Another Easy Draw

Look, we're not saying Manchester City always get easy draws...actually no, we are saying exactly that. It's getting a bit ridiculous now.

This time, Pep Guardiola's side will face off against Porto, Olympiacos and Marseille. They'll easily top the group before crashing out in the quarter finals after Pep decides to play Ruben Dias up front - or something equally bizarre.

Chelsea Draw a Europa League Group

Sevilla, Chelsea, FC Krasnodar and Stade Rennais. We can't be the only one who thought this sounded a lot like a Europa League group.

In fact, we know we aren't. Lots of people of social media agreed...

Liverpool Come Out Okay

Liverpool are being tipped as favourites to lift the Champions League this season. However, a group of Atalanta, Ajax and FC Midtjylland is likely to not be all plain sailing.

Still, could be worse. Much worse actually. Just ask United fans.
