Arsenal surrendered a two-goal at Anfield on Sunday thanks to a thrilling comeback from Liverpool.

The Gunners dominated the first half, with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus scoring the goals, before Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino pegged Mikel Arteta's team back.

The result sees Arsenal drop two points in the title race, two points which see their lead atop of the league table cut to six points.

Despite all the talk pre-match being around Arsenal's poor form at Anfield - they hadn't won there since 2012 - the Gunners hit the ground running on Sunday, and quickly took the lead through Gabriel Martinelli.

A poor bit of defensive play from Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Andrea Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold (never good when you're entire back four is of blame for a goal) allowed the in-form Brazilian to stab the ball past Alisson and into the net.

A key tactical decision from Jurgen Klopp to play Alexander-Arnold as an inverted full-back who drops into midfield was proving to be a misstep early on, with Arsenal exploiting that flank at will.

Liverpool fans, to say the least, weren't best pleased...

Liverpool fan aggro was then exacerbated even further by Gabriel Jesus, who rose highest in the penalty area to nob home a Martinelli cross.

Again, it all came from some horrid Liverpool defending...

After a disastrous opening half an hour, Liverpool were finally sparked into life by a heated confrontation between Granit Xhaka and Alexander-Arnold.

A confrontation which sparked the Anfield crowd back into life...

That renewed vigour of the crowd led to some renewed vigour on the pitch, with Liverpool finding a route back into the game through Mohamed Salah.

The drama continued into the half-time interval in rather shocking circumstances.

As the two teams headed off the pitch Andrew Robertson appeared to have been elbowed by the linesman.

Yep, really.

Despite having been the much better team throughout, Liverpool found themselves with a golden chance to make 2-2 at the start of the second half when Rob Holding gave away a penalty with a silly foul inside the box.

Up stepped Salah to take the penalty and he, amazingly, side-footed just wide of the foot of the right post.

Two misses from the spot in a row for Salah...

Arsenal were relatively comfortable for a long period after that penalty miss, with Liverpool - in particular Salah - looking liked they'd lost a lot of confidence.

Still though, there were some chances, one of which fell to Nunez:

And another which would fall to Firmino.

This time, however, Firmino would score, with the Brazilian rising highest at the back post to head home a TAA cross.

In the final seconds of the game, Aaron Ramsdale made two stunning saves to ensure Arsenal left Anfield with something.

First the Arsenal number one denied a curling effort from Salah which looked destined to nestle in the top corner of the net and, moments later, he was on hand to drag a Konate effort from three-yards out away from danger.

Two saves that may define the title race.
