Twitter Reacts as Bayern Overcome Lyon in Champions League Semi Final

Lyon vs. Bayern Munich. In other words, the game before Bayern's Champions League final meeting with PSG..

Well, that was the general consensus across the entire world after the German side obliterated Barcelona in the previous round, prompting a pretty comprehensive admission from everyone that, yes, we're watching the best football team on the planet. No denying that, right?

Never, however, write off the underdog. Don't do it, it's not fair.

So heading into Wednesday night's Champions League semi-final, was there any chance of an almighty upset? Could Lyon spring an almighty surprise and set up an all French* final?

***Ahem, 'farmer's', as the kids call it.

Let's see what Twitter made of it all.

Roasting him for what? A pretty glaring miss after rounding Manuel Neuer, that's what.

Indeed, Memphis Depay did all the hard work just a few minutes in, but fluffed his lines at the crucial moment and dragged his shot wide.

But they kept at it, even after their miss.

How close could they get to scoring the opener? A lick of paint, that's how brutally close.

'Let me hear you kids, what do good teams do when you miss chances?'

'THEY PUNISH YOU!'

'What's that?'

'THEY PUNISH YOU!'

Yes, yes they do. Mr. Clinical himself Serge Gnabry, to be precise, with a glorious run and thumping finish. Football is a cruel sport.

What was to come next? Bayern dominance, of course.

After a shaky start they found their feet, and Gnabry kept scoring.

Wave after wave of attack soon turned to a tsunami, and the forward grabbed his second. Game over?

After that start, it became a fairly (pretty comprehensively) one-sided affair. Yet despite all that, the chinks in the Bayern armour are there to be exposed.

Lyon, on the back of some wasted chances, picked up where they left off, forcing Neuer into a comfortable save before the German had to make himself as big as he could to prevent Toko Ekambi from scoring. Save aside, he should have put it away.

With the midfield changing hands from Thiago and Leon Goretzka to Maxence Caqueret and Houssem Aouar, Lyon continued to seek a route back into the game, only for more chances to go a begging.

And after those missed chances, we all knew what was coming.

Enter Robert Lewandowski, to seal the deal.

Muller will never live this one down.

Not that he gives a rat's arse about it, mind you.

And there we have it. The 2020 Champions League final is set.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Bayern Munich.

And oh boy, it is set to be a cracker. Twitter certainly thought so, while also offering condolences to a valiant effort from the side that finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season.

But it's all about the final, right?
