Tottenham are looking to break a run of three consecutive Premier League defeats when they host Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs have been beaten by Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal since topping the Premier League table earlier in the season, although Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping a 5-1 win over Mura in the Europa Conference League on Thursday has restored some confidence.

Villa pose a tough challenge, however, having beaten Everton and Manchester in recent weeks.

Here’s a look at the Spurs XI the manager could pick…

1. Goalkeeper & defenders

Hugo Lloris (GK) - Rested completely for Thursday night’s European outing but will come back in to replace Pierluigi Gollini, who will drop to the bench.

Emerson Royal (RB) - Faces competition from Japhet Tanganga but neither impressed against Arsenal. The Brazilian is yet to taste anything other than defeat in the Premier League.

Cristian Romero (CB) - Has only started once in the Premier League so far but could keep his place after a start against Mura on Thursday.

Eric Dier (CB) - Left on the bench in the Conference League but has been an automatic starter in the Premier League, missing out only once so far this season.

Sergio Reguilon (LB) - An ever-present in the Premier League in 2021/22, which has ensured Ben Davies hasn’t really had a chance.

2. Midfielders

Oliver Skipp (CM) - Lost his starting place after the defeat to Crystal Palace but the midfield has looked disjointed without him, particularly in the first half against Arsenal a week ago.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (CM) - The potential return of Skipp to a holding position could free the Dane up for a more active all-action role that he is better known for.

Dele Alli (CM) - Faces competition for his place from Giovani Lo Celso, but his poor performance against Arsenal last weekend could perhaps be attributed to questionable midfield tactics.

3. Forwards

Lucas Moura (RW) - Got an assist off the bench against Mura, his first direct goal contribution of the season. Spurs fans will hope that has built some confidence.

Harry Kane (ST) - Has scored six goals in nine appearances in all competitions since flirting with a summer transfer, but none in the Premier League and that has to change.

Son Heung-min (LW) - The only Spurs player that has made a consistent difference this season. Scored in two 1-0 wins and got the consolation against Arsenal last weekend.
