Another new era begins in north London on Sunday when Nuno Espirito Santo's Tottenham host Premier League champions Manchester City.

With the summer's international tournaments over and done with, all eyes return to domestic football, with this clash possibly the most intriguing of the English top flight's opening weekend of fixtures.

Harry Kane is expected to be available to face the team he wants to join this summer, while City signing Jack Grealish could get another taste of action with his new side after making his debut as a substitute during the Community Shield.

Here's what you need to know ahead of Sunday's game.

Tottenham team news

The main team news for Spurs revolves around Kane's availability. Nuno has said he expects to have most of his squad ready for action, including Kane, though he will make a decision on whether he will feature after their last training session on Saturday.

New signing Bryan Gil has a chance of featuring for what would be his debut, but Cristian Romero has a knock and may sit this one out. Hugo Lloris is expected to retain the number one spot ahead of loan arrival Pierluigi Gollini.

City will be without Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden for their trip to London on Sunday, while Aymeric Laporte has been isolating after getting on a flight where a fellow traveller tested positive for coronavirus.

A number of City's English stars may start the game on the bench following the nation's run to the Euro 2020 final, but Jack Grealish could be handed a starting role on the wing.

Brazil duo Ederson and Gabriel Jesus may also not be involved, though they have returned to the club.

Historically these sides are very even, with City taking 65 wins to Tottenham's 63.

However, the Citizens haven't won at Spurs since 2018, when Riyad Mahrez's sixth-minute strike was enough for victory. Last season, Tottenham's 2-0 triumph over City proved to be the turning point for Guardiola's side as they stormed to the title after an indifferent start.

Tottenham vs Manchester City prediction

Spurs are just beginning a new rebuild as they look to become a force again in the Premier League, while City are most people's favourites to take the title.

While the visitors have a number of first team stars missing, their squad depth is ridiculous and they still have the players to dominate the game on Sunday and take all three points.

Spurs won't roll over and Nuno beat City with Wolves a number of times following their promotion to the top flight, but City should get their title defence off to the right start.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Manchester City
