Tottenham Hotspur are leading the chase for Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Forest are aware of increasing interest in the Welsh international and although reluctant sellers, they know selling a homegrown product for their current asking price of £50m would be a huge boost to their Financial Fair Play calculations going forward.

Johnson himself is not agitating to leave the City Ground, but sources have confirmed to 90min that he would be open to the prospect of a move. Interest earlier in the summer from Brentford was not enough to turn his head, but the same can't be said of Tottenham and Chelsea who are both keen.

It is believed that the lure of Spurs and working with Ange Postecoglou is the most appealing option to Johnson and his representatives at this stage, but as it stands, a deal is not close. Tottenham are some way off the £50m asking price with talks continuing, but getting a deal done before next Friday's transfer window appears to be far from simple.

Tottenham are not short of options though and 90min understands that they are one of the clubs that have been alerted to the availability of former Celtic forward Jota, who has already been made available by Saudi Pro League champions Al Ittihad just two months after becoming their club-record signing.

Jota has experience of working under Postecoglou, scoring 11 goals in 33 Scottish Premiership games last season to help Celtic canter to the title ahead of Rangers, and is a versatile winger who could play on both flanks.

90min further understands that Tottenham are working on bolstering their squad with another central defender and midfielder, though they have just a week left to conclude their business.
