Historically, the north London derby has not been especially kind to Tottenham Hotspur.

The tide has turned in recent times, with Sunday's 2-0 win their fifth derby in all competitions without defeat. But over the piece, it has generally been Arsenal's fixture.

Spells of dominance under George Graham and Arsene Wenger have seen Spurs go long periods without being able to lay a glove on their neighbours, dreading the next visit to the Highbury or the Emirates and the impending doom that comes along with it.

The consequence of that, however, is that when the wins have come along, they have been oh so sweet.

Spurs didn't pick up a win over Arsenal in any of the 29 meetings either side of this one, stretching back to 1995 and forward to...well, we'll get to that later.

Suffice to say, though, that with such a poor record against their dominant neighbours going in, this league victory at White Hart Lane was just chef's kiss for anyone of a Tottenham persuasion.

Curiously, it was former Gunners manager George Graham in the Spurs dugout, as Steffen Iversen and Tim Sherwood downed Arsene Wenger's Gunners with an early double-salvo from which they would not recover.

Arsenal's derby dominance was just about fading by 2010 as Harry Redknapp's Spurs hit their peak, yet it had still been 11 years - all the way back to that one in '99 - since they'd beaten them in the Premier League.

But that all changed thanks to a Gareth Bale masterclass.

After Danny Rose's memorable debut strike put Spurs ahead, the Welshman doubled their lead shortly after the half-time interval. Nicklas Bendtner replied for the Gunners, but Heurelho Gomes pulled off a goalkeeping masterclass to ensure Spurs secured three vital points en route to Champions League qualification.

Okay, so the Carabao Cup isn't exactly the crown jewel of English football. But try telling that to two fierce rivals drawn together with a semi-final place on the line.

Arsenal and Spurs kicked the ever-loving s**t out of each other in this encounter but it was Tottenham - thanks to some wonderful counter-attacking football - who emerged the winners.

Son Heung-min and Dele Alli were the scorers at a miserable Emirates.

After breaking into the starting XI and essentially saving Mauricio Pochettino's job, Harry Kane was breaking down every barrier in his path.

They called him a tap-in merchant, a flat-track bully, 'whose name is Harry Kane?' was asked on Arsenal Fan TV before their meeting in February 2015.

What happened next? Spurs came from behind to win 2-1 late on, with Kane grabbing both. Obviously.

4. Arsenal 2-3 Tottenham (2010, Premier League)

Anyone remember Marouane Chamakh? Big Moroccan lad? Very, very dodgy haircut?

He scored to put Arsenal 2-0 up with half an hour gone in this one and it was seeming like the vocal visiting fans were in for a long afternoon.

Little did they know they were in for one of the best footballing experiences of their lives.

An astonishing second-half fight-back saw Bale pull one back before a Rafael van der Vaart penalty draw Spurs level from the spot and warm things up on a cold November afternoon.

You can only imagine the limbs that followed Younes Kaboul's 85th minute winner.

It really wouldn't have been fair of Arsenal to win the final north London derby at White Hart Lane, would it? Just as well they had the decency not to bother turning up.

A rapid one-two punch from Alli and Kane just before the hour mark put the game to bed as Spurs secured their first finish above Arsenal for 22 years.

For a generation of Spurs fans, this is the one. Until this point there were thousands who could not remember Tottenham beating Arsenal - 1999 was the last time it had happened in any competition.

Heading into the second leg of this League Cup semi-final, then, even with the tie tightly poised, confidence wasn't exactly high among the Spurs faithful. But bloody hell, was it worth the wait.

It was an absolute massacre as Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon and even Steed Malbranque got in on the goalscoring act.

There's a certain level of footballing misery you have to have suffered from before you can properly understand how good this one would have felt. Sheer unadulterated magic.

Okay, 5-1 was good. But it wasn't quite 1991.

It was the last year Spurs won literally anything that wasn't the League Cup, and it came after a hugely memorably victory over their historic rivals - who were on an absolute domestic tear at the time - at Wembley in the semi-final.

It was some Spurs team, too, with Gary Lineker and Paul Gascoigne combining to make sure the Gunners could hardly lay a glove on them.
