Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel has revealed why he thinks Manchester United have endured a poor start to the season.

The Red Devils begin their Champions League group stage campaign with a trip to the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.

Erik ten Hag's men head to Germany off the back of a dismal run of form to open the 2023/24 campaign. They have taken just six points from their opening five Premier League matches and have already lost three times.

Tuchel was asked about United's struggles in his pre-match press conference and replied with a considered answer.

"Your start to the season doesn't say much. They were never really out of the game against Brighton either. They have a lot of individual quality and are extremely dangerous," Tuchel said.

"I felt with Man Utd there was always a lot of noise, a lot of pundits are ex-players from Man Utd, you have this legacy from Sir Alex Ferguson, which creates a lot of pressure. It tells you you work at a big club, big expectations."

United's beginning to the season has also been marred by a string of off-pitch incidents. Their handling of Mason Greenwood's failed return was heavily criticised, while Antony is on leave to deal with accusations of assault from three women.

Jadon Sancho is also training away from the first-team after responding negatively on social media to criticism from Ten Hag.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, head into Wednesday's game off the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen.

Die Roten thought they had stolen a win late on through Leon Goretzka, before Leverkusen scored from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of added time to salvage a point.
