Arsenal star Leah Williamson has won the PFA Vertu Motors WSL Fans' Player of the Month award for March, taking 39% of the overall vote.

Williamson beat competition from a very tough shortlist that also included Gunners teammate Caitlin Foord, as well as Aston Villa duo Rachel Daly and Kenza Dali, Manchester City goalscorer Khadija Shaw and Manchester United midfielder Hayley Ladd.

In what was a busy month that included two Champions League quarter-final legs against Bayern Munich, Arsenal played and won three WSL games in March to reignite their top three and title hopes following a disappointing start to the calendar year.

Williamson started all three and played a major role as the Gunners scored 11 and conceded only once against Liverpool, Reading and Tottenham.

The 2-0 victory over Liverpool, a first for Arsenal in the WSL in 2023, saw Williamson dominate, showcasing excellent distribution and snuffing out attacks. With the result tied up by half-time, it was possible for Jonas Eidevall to withdraw her after an hour with an eye on upcoming games.

With a shortage of bodies further up the pitch, Williamson was then asked to play in midfield in the Reading game. It highlighted her versatility, having also occasionally played the role for England, and she even found the net to round off the scoring in the 4-0 rout.

The Lionesses skipper was back in defence for the north London derby on Women’s Football Weekend, again building play from the back with her range of passing. Williamson also managed to set up the early Arsenal goal for Stina Blackstenius.
