Hartlepool United striker Josh Umerah has won the PFA Vertu Motors League Two Fans' Player of the Month award for January.

The 25-year-old was the narrow winner of January's prize, which was one of the closest run races in its history.

Umerah took in 3,572 votes in total - one more than Colchester United's Junior Tchamadeu, two more than Carlisle United's Kristian Dennis and 29 more than Gillingham's Tom Nichols.

Salford City's Conor McAleny wasn't too far behind in fifth place, with Stevenage's Carl Piergianni finishing in sixth.

Umerah has largely been Hartlepool's shining light in what's been a difficult season fighting relegation. He kicked off 2023 with their first goal in a 3-3 draw at home to Harrogate Town on New Year's Day.

His next goal came in a 2-0 victory against Rochdale at the Suit Direct Stadium, before getting on the scoresheet in a 3-1 defeat at high-flying Carlisle.
