Sheffield Wednesday attacking midfielder Josh Windass has won the PFA Vertu Motors League One Fans' Player of the Month award for January.

The 29-year-old, who grabbed headlines with a match-winning brace in Wednesday's 2-1 win against Premier League side Newcastle United in the FA Cup, also enjoyed a fine month in League One as the Owls continued their march back to the Championship.

On January 2, Wednesday thumped Cambridge United 5-0 at Hillsborough, with Windass scoring a memorable hat-trick that day.

After knocking Newcastle out of the FA Cup, he put in fine performances in 1-0 wins against Wycombe Wanderers and Fleetwood Town, grabbing an assist in the latter.

Windass finished with 27% of the votes for the January award, finishing clear of second-placed Conor Hourihane of Derby County who took in 21%.

In third place was Bolton Wanderers' Dion Charles with 19% of the vote, with former Morecambe star Kieran Phillips - now of Huddersfield Town - taking in 12%.

Shrewsbury Town's Luke Leahy (11%) and Cheltenham Town's Alfie May (10%) rounded off the voting.
