The records broken by Man City in 2022/23 Premier League title win

Manchester City are on course of matching local rivals Manchester United in completing the treble,kicking things off with the Premier League title - an FA Cup and Champions League final are still to come in their quest for immortality.

Arsenal's defeat to Nottingham Forest meant that Manchester City have now been handed their third-straight league title without even playing.

And with a win usually comes records broken - this season is no different.

Erling Haaland in particular has been in the spotlight throughout the campaign, with the Norwegian himself breaking a plethora of records at the first time of trying. He has scored goals at a rate that no one has witnessed before in the recent history of the English top flight and will likely continue to do so for as long as he stays at the Etihad Stadium.

Here are some of the records that Pep Guardiola's 2022/23 Manchester City have broken over the course of this Premier League season.

Erling Haaland: Most goals in a Premier League season

This one should come as no surprise but Pep Guardiola's new number nine, Erling Haaland, quite likes scoring goals. He has 36 of them and his still side still have three games left to play.

Haaland broke the previously held record of 34, jointly held by legends Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole (both in a 42-game season), with an audacious chip over West Ham's Lukasz Fabianski; at that point, he had only played 31 Premier League games.

Matched: Three consecutive titles

Manchester City's 2022/23 domestic triumph records a remarkable three on the trot, which is a feat only managed by Manchester United - who have done it twice - in the Premier League era. In the 135-year history of English league football, Huddersfield (1920s), Arsenal (1930s) and Liverpool (1980s) are the only other clubs to have managed three in a row. No one has ever done four.

Three on the bounce was previously snatched from within City's grasp when Liverpool interrupted the party and picked up the 2019/20 Premier League, after Pep Guardiola's side had won it in both the 2017/18 and 2018/19 campaigns. But the opportunity to surpass Manchester United and the rest by registering a fourth consecutive title next season will be one that Pep will relish.

Erling Haaland's rampant start

The 22-year-old Norway international arrived in style!

Haaland managed to hit the ground running while many believed his goal scoring exploits would be a slow burning process. In hindsight, it was anything but.

Two hat-tricks in August helped him finish the month with the top scorer in August of any Premier League season ever, also being the first to score that many in his first five league games. Haaland then began September just as bright as his goal against Aston Villa saw him break the record of the quickest player to reach 10 Premier League goals, which he managed in six matches.

He then became the first player in the Premier League to score in his first four away games, while silmutaneously becoming the first to score 11 goals in his first seven outings.

Manchester United fans, look away. His hat-trick in October's 6-3 derby thrashing meant he became the first player to score three successive hat-tricks at home, while this treble in that game was also a new record - by a monstrous 40 games - for scoring three hat-tricks in one campaign.

Before January, the talisman had managed to net a record-breaking 20 goals, which in itself would have been a Golden Boot-winning figure for the 1997/98, 1998/99 and 2008/09 seasons, as well as matching the totals of those mustered up in 2006/07 and 2010/11.

Winning despite Arsenal's domination

Everyone knew that this season was a two-horse race relatively early on, with Arsenal and Manchester City head and shoulders above the rest. But with the Gunners spending the majority of the campaign at the summit, many thought that they would put a halt to the recent City dominance.

But, not on Guardiola's watch.

City's definitive title win now means that their title challengers Arsenal spent the longest time at the top of the Premier League table without winning since its 1992 inception, with a total of 248 days.

Though Newcastle are commonly association with the Premier League's most significant capitulation of the Premier League, there may now be new contenders for that unwanted label.
