The Players Who Could Push to Leave Celtic This Summer
By Charlie Stewart
For the third season in a row, Celtic failed to make it through the Champions League qualifiers - this time crashing out to Hungarian side Ferencvaros.
It's was a humiliating result for the Bhoys, who will sadly have to settle for just three trophies once again (bless).
With the lack of competition in the Scottish Premiership, the Champions League offered some excitement for their players and a chance to face some of the best teams in the world. Without it, there is little to look forward to, which may leave a number of their better players getting twitchy feet.
Manager Neil Lennon has already confirmed that a number of players have approached him about leaving the club, so it's our job at 90min to root out the potential troublemakers. Or, to word it more nicely, the ones who may look to leave Parkhead if they possibly can...
1. Odsonne Edouard
If there was to be a mass Celtic exodus, then Odsonne Edouard would be one of the first players out the door.
The Frenchman has notched an impressive 66 goals in 130 appearances for Celtic in all competitions, including 22 SPFL goals scored in last season's campaign - nine more than any other player in the division.
This form has attracted plenty of attention, with some of the Premier League's biggest clubs linked. Manager Neil Lennon has opened contract talks with the former PSG man, but if the Premier League comes calling, there may be little that the Irishman can do to prevent a move.
At the very least, Celtic should get a good price for the forward.
Possible Destinations: Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Lyon
2. Kristoffer Ajer
Another one who would have no shortage of options is Norwegian defender Kristoffer Ajer.
Ajer was a regular in Celtic's side last season, featuring in 28 out of 30 league games. He managed to add two more trophies to his personal cabinet, taking his total up to eight since joining the Bhoys in 2016.
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been reportedly eyeing a reunion with the 22-year-old, although he could face competition from some of Europe's biggest clubs. And, once again, he will cost a fair bit.
Possible Destinations: Leicester City, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund
3. Olivier Ntcham
French youth international Olivier Ntcham is the next on the list.
Since signing from Manchester City in 2017, Ntcham has made 123 appearances in all competitions, scoring 23 times - most notably a 95th-minute winner against Lazio in the Europa League.
At 24 years old, the Frenchman has a lot of his career ahead of him. However, he is approaching his prime years, so may want to move on soon.
Possible Destinations: Southampton, West Ham United, Everton
4. Ryan Christie
The Scotsman is enjoying life at Celtic Park, having just enjoyed the best goalscoring season of his career with 19 in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has spent his entire professional career in Scotland, indulging in spells at Inverness and Aberdeen before breaking into the Celtic side.
While he may be content with winning regular trophies at Celtic, there could be a part of him that wants to push himself further and see how far he can go. The midfielder's father recently suggested that his son would "thrive" at a higher level.
Possible Destinations: Southampton, Leeds United
5. James Forrest
Having played his entire career at the Scottish giants, James Forrest is well on his way to becoming a Celtic legend.
The little winger is just one game off 400 appearances for the Bhoys, and just 12 goals off the century mark. His time at Celtic even attracted reported interest from Jurgen Klopp, much to the dismay of Chris Sutton and John Hartson.
Would he throw away legendary status just to play second fiddle to Mohamed Salah? No, probably not. But hey, Lionel Messi's on the move, so why not Forrest as well?
