Paul Scholes played 718 games and won 20 major trophies for Manchester United during a glorious 19-year career.

While he was renowned for his passing ability, Scholes also scored 155 goals during that time, many of which were incredible strikes.

It's time for a trip down memory lane; here’s a rundown of the nine very best goals from Scholes’ United career.

9. Manchester City

Man City 0-1 Man Utd (17 April 2010)

United had beaten nouveau riche Manchester City in dramatic late fashion at Old Trafford in September 2009 and did it again at the Etihad Stadium the following April.

Scholes got the sole goal of the latter contest, a header that encapsulated his intelligence as a player as he ghosted into the penalty completely unmarked to win the game at the death.

8. Liverpool

Man Utd 2-0 Liverpool (24 September 1998)

Scholes sealed an important home win for United over Liverpool early in the 1998/99 season, coming just four days after being comprehensively beaten by Arsenal at Highbury.

United were leading 1-0 through a Denis Irwin penalty, yet Liverpool had enjoyed the best of the second half until Scholes rifled in a first-time left-footed shot into the top corner.

7. Blackburn

Man Utd 4-1 Blackburn (31 March 2007)

Scholes kicked off a 4-1 comeback win over Blackburn in March 2007 that was a crucial moment in the title race as United tried to wrestle domestic power back from Chelsea.

A jinking run past two Blackburn players after collecting the ball 25 yards from goal took Scholes into the penalty area and he fired low back across goal. United went on to get three more soon after.

6. Everton

Man Utd 3-0 Everton (7 October 2002)

Everton defenders backed away from Scholes at their peril on a visit to Old Trafford in the autumn of 2002, allowing him to smash the ball into the net from 25 yards off the underside of the crossbar.

The game had been 0-0 until the 86th minute when Scholes broke the deadlock from close-range. Ruud van Nistelrooy made it 2-0 from the penalty spot, with Scholes’ screamer coming in stoppage time.

5. Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough 3-4 Man Utd (10 April 2000)

Scholes was making a habit of the spectacular in the 1999/00 season, scoring a screamer in a seven-goal thriller against Middlesbrough that was bound for the top corner from the moment he hit it.

Gary Neville got the assist nod for simply rolling the ball inside, but the goal was all Scholes, striking it so cleanly without even taking a touch to set himself.

4. Bradford

Bradford 0-4 Man Utd (25 March 2000)

Shortly before he caned one into the top corner against Middlesbrough, Scholes scored one of his most famous United goals with a volley against Bradford.

Lurking on the edge of the penalty area, David Beckham very deliberately pulled a corner out of the box to find him. Scholes struck it sweetly and the ball dipped and swerved into the net.

3. Panathinaikos

Man Utd 3-1 Panathinaikos (21 November 2000)

Scholes capped off an exceptional team goal that polished off a challenging Champions League win against Panathinaikos in November 2000, a delicious chip to make it 3-1.

Having got into the lead, United were diligently keeping possession to forge an opening, and they did when Teddy Sheringham’s clever heel flick played in Scholes to lift the ball into the net.

2. Barcelona

Man Utd 1-0 Barcelona (29 April 2008)

Scholes scored the goal that put United into the 2008 Champions League final, the sole difference between the sides in a tense semi-final tie against Barcelona.

Scholes gained possession from a weak clearance 30 yards out and struck the ball just as it bounced off the turf to give a sweet connection, bending away from the goalkeeper into the top corner.

1. Aston Villa

Aston Villa 0-3 Man Utd (23 December 2006)

Scholes made it a Christmas to remember in 2006 when he scored the best goal of his United career in a 3-0 win over Aston Villa, showcasing incredible technique and ability.

A United corner was half cleared, but as it dropped from the sky 30 yards from goal, Scholes wound up to volley. His strike was as sweet as they come, crashing in off the underside of the crossbar.
