Tottenham's record signing Tanguy Ndombele will remain in north London this summer after 'making up' with manager José Mourinho, according to a report.

The Portuguese boss called the Frenchman out on multiple occasions last season - most memorably in the wake of Spurs' 1-1 draw at Burnley in March - and reports in France suggested Ndombele would depart N17 after just one season, with his relationship with Mourinho broken beyond repair.

The former Lyon star started just five times in the Premier League under Mourinho last term and earned just two substitute appearances after the restart.

However, L'Equipe (via Get French Football News) - who were one of the protagonists in reporting Ndombele's rift with his manager - now understand that the midfielder has 'made up' with Mourinho over the past three months, with constructive exchanges between the pair facilitated by chairman Daniel Levy - who was keen to keep Ndombele on Spurs' books despite the manager's concerns and strong interest from Inter.

Juventus were also interested in the 24-year-old and reportedly offered Spurs a swap deal which would've seen Federico Bernadeschi and Douglas Costa arrive in N17.

Nevertheless, the gifted midfielder is thought to have said privately that he 'doesn't want to flop' at Tottenham following a frustrating debut campaign riddled by injuries and fitness woes.

Ndombele believes he now has a 'greater understanding of both the club and the Premier League' and is desperate to earn a place in France's squad for next summer's Euros.

Signs of a better relationship between the Frenchman and his manager were laid bare after the former impressed off the bench and scored Tottenham's winner in their Europa League qualifier against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on Thursday night.

"I believe in Tanguy. I never doubted his ability, I doubted his effort and motivation," Mourinho said post-game.

“He’s working very hard. I have to be honest and say he is working better than ever.”
