Sheikh Jassim makes world-record bid to buy Man Utd
Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani has made a world-record bid to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family, 90min understands.
The deadline for final bids to take over or invest in the club passed at 10pm BST on Friday night.
Sheikh Jassim is up against stiff competition from Sir Jim Ratcliffe in order to take a controlling stake in Man Utd.
Sources have informed 90min that Sheikh Jassim's final bid clears the current £5bn record to take over a sports team or franchise, but is still short of the £6bn the Glazers are believed to be looking for.

Sheikh Jassim, a lifelong Man Utd fan, submitted his bid via the Nine Two Foundation - a nod to the club's famous class of '92.
Their bid is believed to be higher than that of Ratcliffe's final offer - which has also now been submitted - but the Qatari wants to buy the club outright, while the Englishman is happy to bring in other investors and maybe even keep the Glazers on board.
90min previously reported that there is a growing sense at Old Trafford that the Glazers would prefer to broker a deal with investors instead of sell the club entirely.
