Sergio Aguero has confirmed that he has been medically cleared to start training ahead of a one-time-only appearance in a friendly in Ecuador.

Manchester City's all-time leading scorer, Aguero was forced to retire in December 2021 just a few months after joining Barcelona when he was diagnosed with a heart condition, bringing an abrupt end to a legendary career.

Since then, Aguero has been active online and was involved in Argentina's behind-the-scenes team at the World Cup, and he has now confirmed that he will be back on the pitch in the near future in the colours of another team named Barcelona - Ecuadorian side Barcelona Sporting Club.

“I look forward to being there, having fun, having a good time and meeting the Barcelona fans for the first time,” Aguero said about their Noche Amarilla friendly game.

"I am in control of my heart issue from just a year ago. I am very well, I am controlled by a chip that the cardiologist controls. I'm already starting to train, I'm starting to move, to play some games with my friends, in 15 days I'm going to play a game in Barcelona in Spain."

An annual celebration to mark the start of Barcelona S.C.'s new season, Noche Amarilla sees the Ecuadorian side invite a legend of the game to compete in the friendly. Since the tradition was introduced in 2016, Barcelona S.C. have invited Ronaldinho, Diego Forlan, Kaka, Andrea Pirlo, Alessandro del Piero, Javier Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, and now Aguero will join that list.

Barcelona S.C. are set to face fellow Ecuadorians Orense on January 28.
