Schalke 0-4 Bayern Munich: Player ratings as Die Roten extend lead at top of Bundesliga

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table to seven points with a 4-0 win over basement dwellers Schalke on Sunday.

The game got off to a fairly even start with both teams breaking on each other with some regularity. However, the favourites would eventually break the deadlock just after the half hour mark when Joshua Kimmich's perfect cross was gratefully nodded home by Thomas Muller.

Just after the break Die Riten doubled their advantage through Robert Lewandowski. The best striker in the world took down Kimmich's lofted ball, shook off his defender, and fired past Ralf Fahrmann.

With four minutes left to play Muller added some gloss to the scoreline by rising high to meet Kimmich's corner and powering a header into the back of the net. Seconds later David Alaba's pot shot squirmed under Fahrmann's grasp to make it 4-0.

1. Goalkeeper & Defenders

Manuel Neuer (GK) - 8/10 - A couple of important saves in the first half. Barked at his defence a lot for their occasional slackness.

Niklas Sule (RB) - 7/10 - A solid shift in an unfamiliar role. Allowed little down his side and registered four tackles. Very tidy in possession.

Jerome Boateng (CB) - 6/10 - A few pieces of slack marking allowed Schalke into the game early on. Produced a couple of accurate long balls forward but picked up a ridiculous yellow card in the closing stages.

David Alaba (CB) - 7/10 - Nothing too bad. Could have been more proactive in denying Schlake free shots from the edge of the box.

Alphonso Davies (LB) - 7/10 - One of his quieter afternoons going forward but he was solid defensively. Still looks like he needs a few more games to get back to match fitness.

2. Midfielders

Leon Goretzka (CM) - 7/10 - The least eye-catching of Bayern's midfield three. Allowed Schalke a little bit too much time to shoot in the final third.

Joshua Kimmich (CM) - 10/10 - Ran the game. Three assists, eight key passes. Make no mistake, this guy is the best deep lying midfielder in the world by some distance.

Thomas Muller (AM) - 9/10 - Took his goals in typically clinical fashion. Occupied some very dangerous positions.

3. Forwards

Leroy Sane (RW) - 6/10 - A few menacing moments. Was lacking that extra bit of luck.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) - 8/10 - Became the first Bundesliga striker to score in eight consecutive away games. Just another record broken in a legendary career.

Serge Gnabry (LW) - 6/10 - Squandered some decent opportunities in the first half. Created some good openings but will be disappointed not to score.

4. Substitutes

Jamal Musiala - 7/10 - Enthusiastic as always. The Schalke defence did not seem to enjoy marking him and he forced a save out of Fahrmann.

Kingsley Coman - 7/10 - Involved in some nice moves after coming on.

Lucas Hernandez - 6/10 - Very little to do.
